Back in the last lege session, Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, caused mild uproar in the Twitterverse when he suggested that the 140-character-or-less messaging service may not be the best place to express a complex political idea. Turns out, he was kinda right.
What he missed out was that it's the perfect environment for saying off-the-cuff stuff that might get you into trouble. But wait! Hasn't former Bill Clinton-campaign guru and UT alum Paul Begala always claimed that the entirety of Christian theology can be summed up in 140 characters from John 3:16 ("For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life")? Well, yeah, but he's ignoring the couple of thousand pages of supporting documentation. Frankly, Twitter is knee-deep in misguided nonsense and ill-considered half-thoughts that, as Strama pointed out, aren't really helping the quality of political debate. Which is exactly why we'll be dipping in occasionally to find the really good stuff.
So this may be a gasp-shock-horror moment, but seems like David Guenthner, award-winning director of media and government relations for the Texas Public Policy Foundation, may have let something fly on Twitter that, well, may seem a little bit, well, take a look at this from last night:
If #Dolphins won't cut Ted Ginn, at least trade her to the Miami Caliente for past considerations. #nfl #lingeriefootballSee, Ted Ginn is bad at sports, so he must be a girl! Genius! This from the man that won a Texas Social Media Award this year from the Austin American Statesman. Apparently "his use of Facebook and Twitter also help keep Texans informed about what's going on with their government."
