Austin Energy Chief to Retire

Environmental innovator Roger Duncan announces he is stepping down in 2010

Austin Energy Chief to Retire

A big, if not unexpected, announcement from Austin Energy: General manager Roger Duncan has announced that he will be retiring on March 1, 2010.

This is no Fred Gilliam-style "jumped before he was pushed" departure. Long regarded as the environmental conscience and technology innovator of Austin Energy, Duncan moved up from deputy general manager to his current position in 2008. He explained, "When I told [City Manager Marc Ott] I would do the job, I committed to two years."

He became eligible for retirement earlier this year, but is sticking around while the city looks for a suitable replacement.
