ACL Review: Struts
“Austin, we released our debut album Everybody Wants in the UK two years ago,” announced Luke Spiller, preening frontman for English glam revivalists the Struts, near the end of their ACL set on Friday. “Radio refused to play us! I hate that! So the four of us bought tickets to America last year, and we’ve been here since! And we love it!”

BBC Radio took over Stubb’s on Thursday night, opening with 83-year-old American treasure Loretta Lynn. Dion Francis DiMucci, born July 18, 1939, in the Bronx, scored some of doo-wop’s biggest hits with his first group, the Belmonts (“Teenager in Love”). Solo hits “Runaround Sue” and “The Wanderer” were better, and he achieved a blues Zen covering the Drifters’ “Ruby Baby.” Tonight he vets new LP New York is My Home at the Driskill’s Victorian Room, 11pm

ACL Taping: Iggy Pop
House lights dimming, a wildings stomp whoops over the house PA. Onto the ACL Live at the Moody Theater stage swagger five musicians in matching red sharkskin evening jackets with black velvet lapels and narrow-cut black trousers and black shoes. The drummer begins pounding out a monstrous Motown-meets-Gene Krupa beat familiar from film and television.
