December 1 sure felt a lot like Christmas inside Emo’s East last night. Sadly, the sold-out “Surfjohn Stevens Christmas Sing-Along Seasonal Affective Disorder Yuletide Disaster Pageant on Ice featuring Sufjan Stevens” involved no ice, nor pageant, but the elaborate stage set and costumes of both band and fans took holiday cheer to the next level.
Happy day after Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving means the end of November, which means we’re nearing the end of the year, which means that Internal Affairs is almost a year old! And what a wonderful year it’s been. I’ve really enjoyed writing about the local scene and various music industry issues. Nevertheless, this will be my last weekly column.
Another ACL has come and gone and I’m still standing – no small victory. From working with artists to writing about them, I’ve been involved in ACL every year for a long time. It’s been good to me too. One of my earliest music memories remains attending the festival with my dad when I was 10 (2003), and being amazed by David Garza’s songs and energy.

Since I couldn't print my whole interview with Metric's Emily Haines, here's a few tidbits that won’t make the print edition.
September's arrived, so I suppose I have to make peace with the fact that school is back in session. That’s my dirty secret: When I’m not running around with bands, I’m doing this whole college thing too. That's why I try to make sure that my education syncs up with my career. Like this semester, I’m taking a class in interview principles and practices.
Despite sounding like a Taco Bell promotion, the Hot Burrito To-Go Weekend in Marfa comes out of Austin courtesy of the Spider House 29th St. Ballroom. The Sept. 7-8 weekend features 30 bands playing two venues, Padre's and Planet Marfa, with a lineup featuring local favorites Bobby Jealousy, Foreign Mothers, American Sharks, Melissa Bryan, etc.
