...&More... Premieres Growth Through Acceptance

By Kevin Curtin, February 13, 2017, 11:45am, Earache!

Austin-based MCs Scuare and No1Important, two verbally agile all-stars of the community cypher Austin Mic Exchange, have again joined forces under the mystifying moniker ...&More... for new, bleakly-titled album Existence is Futile.

Existence is Futile is in many ways the celebration of a loss of ultimate purpose in our lives,” the duo explained in a statement to the Chronicle. “It’s an attempt to figure out how to deal with the day-to-day life, while constantly being pulled out of its scope and wondering which parts even matter to us.”

That introspection, spiked with faded nihilism, drives the group’s debut single “Faces Places,” in which a pair of dynamic verses – Scuare first, then No1Imporant – cuts loose 90mph poetry unmoored by shifting time signatures. Meanwhile, a vowel-heavy background vocal sample unfolds into the refrain, “I spend too many days alone.” Frantic yet smooth, deep yet playful, ...&More...’s creative alchemy is totally unique.

“‘Faces Places’ is us embracing the imperfections and general dissatisfaction we have with a lot of what has influenced our wellbeing so far in life. [It’s] an attempt at growth through acceptance,” continues the duo’s memo.

They christen their new album, antithetical follow-up to 2016’s Existence is Essential, with an Austin Mic Exchange-sponsored release show at Sidewinder this Saturday. Joining in the fun are a host of lyrical locals including Wallaby & Bobbes, the Underdogz, Retrograde, and Space Camp Death Squad, who’ll break in ace producer Bird Peterson as their DJ.

Here’s “Faces Places:”
