Swallow Some Otis the Destroyer
Fuzz rockers tease new Belushi EP

Loud rock specialists Otis the Destroyer crash back into your eardrums this week on a new EP. It’s the second strike for the Gibson SG-wielding local quartet, who’ve been steadily baptizing Texans with their sweaty live show since emerging on the scene with 2014 debut Dark Arts.
Otis’ latest, a four-track sprint produced by Bubble bosses Frenchie Smith and Sean Rolie, comes branded with name of Blues Brother and Saturday Night Live first-teamer John Belushi. It’s an appropriate allusion for music that’s surprisingly nimble for how heavy it is.
Before Belushi hits the marketplace tomorrow, dig deEP cut “Swallow,” wherein a pulsating chord progression ticks into time bomb dynamics, exploding with the radiant wail of frontman Taylor Wilkins. In a sonic triumph, the former Couch vocalist’s high howl mystically unifies with the track’s corrosive guitar lead. Witness Otis the Destroyer’s fuzz cacophony in person on Saturday at Barracuda, linked up with Megafauna, Modern Medicine, and Think No Think for the EP release show.
