Help Crowdfund Austin's Wealthiest Band

The practice of financing albums through online crowdfunding has become so commonplace that even the Yuppie Pricks, a punk band that presents themselves as yacht-owning day traders disgusted by the middle class, have just launched one. This week, the band opened up an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for their fourth album, Appetite for Consumption.

“We noticed there was an overwhelming number of white, privileged trust fund kids getting their vanity projects paid for by naïve friends and family members,” explains lead singer Trevor Middleton III in the hilarious promo video.

The Chronicle’s music section categorically avoids writing about most crowdfunding projects because they're so omnipresent amongst local bands that posting them could become a weekly practice, but we make an exception for the Yuppie Pricks, who are handling their campaign with the equal measures of irony and arrogance that we've come to expect from the one-time Alternative Tentacles signees who dress like country clubbers and sing songs like “Fuck You, I’m Rich” over legitimately good punk rock.

“Think of this as an IPO for you 99 percenters,” reads the fundraiser introduction. “A chance to bask in the glory and, perhaps, even meet and hang out with real multi-multi-millionaires and billionaires.”

Indeed, the perks do included hangtime with the likes of Middleton and bandmates Deuce Hollingsworth, Preston Hetherington III, Nigel Smythen, and Ricky the Intern. For $30,000, you and three friends will be flown to Las Vegas, where you'll party it up with the Yuppie Pricks for three nights. Golf and titty bars are guaranteed. The funder will also be given $5,000 of their money back on the condition that they bet it all on one hand of blackjack.

Less information is provided for the $100,000 “Donkey Show” perk, except that a non-disclosure agreement and living will must be drafted in advance. More affordable rewards, including pre-ordering the new LP, are also offered.

Appetite for Consumption, set to include songs such as “Suck My Gold Dick” and “Corporate Welfare Whores,” is slated for release on Mike Dickinson's Chicken Ranch Records, home to Peelander Z and Starlings, TN, on Aug. 12.
