SXSW Band Invites, Part II

By Chase Hoffberger, November 19, 2013, 1:03pm, Earache!

South by Southwest increased its bandwidth this afternoon, extending official invitations to another 348 acts from Austin and around the world. The re-up brings the festival’s tally to in excess of 500 names, with some 1,500 or more expected to be added before the Music conference, March 11-16, 2014.

After announcement of an initial cull last month, this installment continues keeping the big names secret, but it runs deep nonetheless, with SXSW mainstays such as the Black Lips and Talib Kweli joining Baltimore indie duo Wye Oak and a regrouped G-Side. From up-and-comers (ACL’s Typhoon) to vets (Gary Numan), and international rockers ranging Berlin (Kadavar) to South Korea (Galaxy Express), there’s much to explore here.

Locally, Carolyn Wonderland, Quiet Company, Kydd Jones, and the League of Extraordinary Gz join Max Frost, Residual Kid, Nakia, and Mother Falcon in what’s ultimately an awfully robust list. Bobby Jealousy, My Jerusalem, the Eastern Sea, the list goes on, while spanning the Lone Star state from Waco (Billy Joe Shaver) to Houston (recent FFF metallurgists Venomous Maximus).

Here’s the full rundown. And make no mistake, the clock’s ticking. Only 112 days remain until the circus posts its tent.
