Celebrate HAAM Day
SXSWfm and the ‘Chronolog’ sponsor Wooldridge Park concert

As detailed in Playback last week and this morning’s Chronolog – our new radio station on SXSWfm – Health Alliance for Austin Musicians goes above and beyond for our music community.
The local non-profit, providing cheap, comprehensive health care coverage to local musicians since 2005, launches its eighth annual HAAM Benefit Day on Tuesday, a day of concerts designed to fund medical aid for those making the music. If you missed the insert in the Chronicle that’s on stands currently, the HAAM website also lists the copious performances.
One show in particular has our attention: the evening benefit downtown in Wooldridge Square Park. We’ve sponsored the event with SXSWfm, and it showcases blues prodigies the Peterson Brothers Band, Nineties indie rockers Frank Smith , and local rock quintet the Rocketboys. There’s a silent auction for three-day passes to ACL and SXSW wristbands, plus free parking and beer for a modest suggested donation.
Gates open at 5:30pm, with the bands performing at 6, 7, and 8 respectively. (Chronolog, meanwhile, airs Mondays at 6am, noon, 6pm, and finally midnight.) Get on out and support local musicians, particularly on HAAM Benefit Day. The future of Austin music – and of some of these musicians’ minds, limbs, and teeth – depends on it.
A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press. If real news is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $10 or whatever you can afford, to help keep our journalism on stands.
