Between “The Twist,” the sax, and singing one song to a golden panda, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James’ first solo Austin City Limits taping last night went exactly as expected. Here’s a brief recap of the “Honest Man” Kentuckian’s performance, rendered in (cough) haiku style in preparation for tonight’s appearance at Stubb’s.

Jim James can’t dance.
Jim James played the saxophone.
Jim James did “The Twist.”
Jim James wore a brown suit.
Jim James occasionally went psychedelic, like the Beatles, Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd.
Like when Led Zeppelin visited “Kashmir.”
Like My Morning Jacket.
Jim James sang to a statue of a golden panda.
Jim James sometimes played his guitar on a stand.
Jim James didn’t address the audience until the encore.
Jim James hopscotched around the stage when he tried to dance.
Jim James still wants to be Prince.
Jim James would go to the side of the stage and do the shimmy with his back to the audience while his band played.
“Jim James,” my friend Lisa said. “He’s a weird dude.”
Jim James made it loud and original.
