She Turned Her Camera On

By Darcie Stevens, May 9, 2008, 9:21am, Earache!

How do you know when you’ve made it big time? The endless array of profitable car commercials? Not quite. The aural cameos on HBO’s Unscripted or endless studio films (Cloverfield, 21)? Those are all great, but that doesn’t say much more than someone in some office somewhere likes that song with the piano in it. But Austin hardworking troubadours Spoon, my goodness, have hit the jackpot. In last Sunday’s pop-culture-riddled piece of Simpsons history, “Any Given Sundance,” Lisa became documentarian filming Capturing the Simpsons (get it?) to the tune of 2005 Gimme Fiction hit “I Turn My Camera On.”

Okay, it’s no personification. Matt Groening didn’t pencil in the ever-so-perfect coif atop Britt Daniel’s head, but you have to have something to aim for, right? There will come a day when Spoon will join the ranks of Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, the Who, and, um, the Backstreet Boys and in yellow and blue. We can think of no band that deserves it more. Until that day comes, enjoy the newest and brightest music video below.
