Some weekends were made for double dates, double fisting (errr… no comment), and double the events. This is one of those weekends. Whatever your down-time mind craves, chances are it’s happening sometime between now and Sunday. So refill that coffee mug, and get yer eyes on the prize, ponies. There’s no use tiring out early, and missing the good stuff.
Friday: It’s officially DJ madness all over town tonight. Poo Poo Platter, along with Mouthfeel and GirlFriend, invite you to strike a pose and vogue at Elysium in celebration of Madonna’s 56th birthday. Across the way, Cap’n Tits and Iron Mike – aka Deep Cuts – will be seducing the dance floor at Cheer Ups. They’re promising low'n'slow bass to make those temperatures rise.
Suggestion: Whatever order you do it in, heed the queen of pop and express yourself on the dance floor. But don't forget, there’s a $5 cover at Elysium.
Saturday: Tonight’s for the fantastical and theatrical. If you’re looking for some punk rock mayhem Bitter Heart Society and BugGiRL will be shredding guitars and shaking the walls of The Badlands. But if you're craving a more emerald-tinted option, return to Oz with the players of Salvage Vanguard Theater. Bright Now Beyond is a new tale and a new take on a gloomier Oz with a “bodacious girl army.”
Suggestion: Choose your own ending ‘cause you can’t go wrong with these options, and – if you time it right – you can do both.
Sunday: Give new meaning to your day of rest by kicking back and listening to the tunes of Girls with Guitars. These local singer-songwriters are taking over Skylark for your listening pleasure. But once they’ve played that final chord – bike on over to the French Legation Museum for the second to last Cinema East of the summer. Hold back those tears, love, there’s still one more left.
Suggestion: If you need less rest in your Sunday, head over to Rain once the lights go dark at Cinema East. There’s a pre-Stargayzer fest happening from 9pm til late.
