Austin's LGBTQ film fest announces more films

Add Another Trio to the aGLIFF Tease

The Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF) just announced three more films to its roster of the fest’s 27th annual event.

The festival takes place September 10-14 at what will be the newly remodeled Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar – an updated version of the Austin-classic, complete with bowling lane bars and space ship décor.

Polari/aGLIFF announced back in May that it would screen aGLIFF 27 at the new Alamo. After sorting through over 300 submissions, the fest’s curators, headed by program director Jim Brunzell, have decided to tease with info about three diverse picks – one based in our own cowboy state.

The fest will announce its final line-up in early August, but for now, here’s something to chew on – leather straps, saddles, n’ all.

Queens & Cowboys: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo follows the International Gay Rodeo Association’s three-decade trot across North America. (Austin LGBTQ cowpoke-folk will recognize 30-gallon hat tips to the TGRA.) These cowboys and cowgirls bust broncos and stereotypes all along the way.

Dual After a midnight ride around town, two young women brought together by fate (and airplane problems at a Slovene airport) grow closer as they each learn a little more about navigating life.

Folsom Forever San Fran's gay-male leather scene and low-income residents meet bulldozers, gentrification, and other threats to their community head on, all through the lens of the annual Folsom Street Fair. (Trailer NSFW)

Add these three titles to aGLIFF's ongoing tease, which began last week with the announcement of: Tom at the Farm, Regarding Susan Sontag, and The Way He Looks.

Polari/aGLIFF will also host a fundraiser on July 18 hosted by Frank Genco, Clay Smith, and Amanda Eyre Ward. There will be booze, noshes, and proceeds will go to Austin's beloved annual LGBTQ film event. Tickets are on sale now and range from $20-35.
