Monday through Thursday has come and gone again, and the queers of Austin are anxiously awaiting next week’s (anti/alternative) Pride: Queerbomb. In quivering anticipation of June 7, take it easy, take it down, and take it slow this weekend with these low-key QG events.
Friday: Add another helping hand to SXSW Cares by heading to Bookwoman for a showcase of lovely lady singers. The Better Halves, Katie Gosnell, Jan Seides, Jean Synodinos, Jessica Shepherd, Kit Holmes, Rusty Nelson, and Sue Young all perform at this intimate benefit. They want us to know that Austin songwriters care, too.
Suggestion: Bring a friend, and give what you can. Every penny helps.
Second Suggestion: After Bookwoman, get yourself to The Goodnight to party with the Jodie Foster Invasion in full Guerrilla Bar Takeover-style.
Saturday: Celebrate all things (Texas) woman Saturday night as Vagina Zine hosts Grrrls, Grrrls, Grrrls. This birthday party masquerading as a fundraiser – or vice versa – is offering a raffle (Brass Ovaries class pass?! Q Toys! Juiceland! – oh my!), bands, and a DJ. The Zine's birthday-inspired goal? Get Wendy Davis and Leticia Van De Putte elected, and donate some extra cash money to GENaustin and Whole Woman's Texas Action Fund.
Suggestion: Buy two raffle tickets: You want these prizes.
Sunday: Dine on crawfish, no pun intended. Bout Time II will be "serving up some crawfish realness" tonight and everyone's invited. The boil is $5, but bloody marys are just $1, making for a perfectly queer Tex brunch.
Suggestion: Grab your gaggle, and bring the grrrls to the gays.
And we'll see you right here next week with the QUEERBOMB Edition. Til then, lovaaaaas.
