Stargayzer Lineup Released

By Rob Cohen, April 15, 2014, 4:10pm, The Gay Place

As far as we're concerned, Austin can never have enough music or queer-friendly events. The inaugural Stargayzer Festival weekend (September 12-14) promises an eclectic mix of the cutting-edge and indie side of queer music. And it all happens at Carson Creek Ranch.

Stargayzer is produced by Christeene cohort, JJ Booya and DJ Young Creature, half of the Alien She DJ duo and producer of the annual Y'all or Nothin' show during SXSW.

When we saw the Stargayzer lineup, we uttered a collective "Whoa!" But seeing who's producing the festival, it all makes sense. While we let the magic of this announcement sink in, let's keep it simple and delve a little deeper into the headliners.

Austra
The gays were quick to make this goth lil' lamb their own upon her emergence in 2011. Her rinky-dink dark pop is cute and her voice is one powerful bleat. I have seen her live during SXSW. She is "Gay Place" tested and approved.

Xiu Xiu
Regular "Gay Place" readers know we love us some Xiu Xiu. After canceling their own tour due to throat troubles (we'll skip the joke, too easy) we are lucky to get two upcoming shows, one here, one opening for Swans, from our favorite noise provocateurs. I interviewed Jamie Stewart, head Xiu, a while back. Check it out here and stay tuned for a follow-up.

Trust
Austra cohort Robert Alfons is now on his own and taking his big, gritty doom pop and husky voice to new heights on his new LP Joyland. This song has been stuck in my head for months.

Stay tuned to the official festival website for more Stargayzer action, including up-to-date news, interviews, and a few more line-up announcements as the date draws near.
