Where the Girls Go/ATX: Offbeat Edition

Clues to capture the elusive grrrls & bois of ATX this weekend

By Sarah Marloff, 11:00AM, Fri. Apr. 4

Though my trusty iPhone weather"man" predicts cooler days this weekend, the spring temperatures make the best for Saturday's all-day gatherings. And you're gonna need to cool off after Friday night.

Friday: The Sahara Lounge invites you to rekindle your love for the one and only Erykah Badu tonight at Body Rock ATX. Riders Against the Storm, DJ Chorizo Funk, and Houston's Flash Gordon Parks celebrate Ms. Badu and all the ladies who inspired her. Branded as “the wildest party on the Eastside,” this installation of Body Rock is bound to be the perfect Friday night mix of queers, eye candy, and dancing.

Suggestion: Bring cash for the cover and be ready to dance.

Saturday (Option 1): Catch up on your reading at the sixth annual Lone Star LesFic Festival. The Fic Fest boasts 23 authors, seven panels, and six reading series to round out the full day of events. And ya know who reads LesFic? Lesbians. Clearly.

Suggestion: Get there early for goodie bags, stay til the end for the raffle.

Saturday (Option 2): One of Austin's most talked about festivals is taking over Fiesta Gardens with live music, craft beer, speakers, sponsors and vendors. That's right tomorrow marks the return of VegFest 2014. But it s not just a free entry and tons of food to gorge yourself on, it's a landmine for all those q-grrrls you never see out at the clubs. Trust me. Vegetarian and Queer are often synonymous. Don't believe me? Check out this tumblr, or the recently gay-married Sara Gilbert.

Suggestion: Skip breakfast, make eye contact, and don't be afraid to ask for numbers (or seconds).
