What's in the buzz bin this week? Well, SXSW. But before we get lost in that jungle, let's have one last check-in, as The Gay Place presents: Mo' Music Pre-/Non-SXSW Edition.
"Nocturnal" Double Duchess
Fab twerk duo Double D invite you to get on all fours on the dance floor on this bouncy new single off their new EP. Download it and another new track for free on their Soundcloud, and revisit my interview with them. And while you're at it, check out Kate's teaser from last year about the cover artist responsible for the DD's EP image, Austin artist Xavier Schipani.
"Ring the Bell" White Hinterland
While some dull stuff can come out of the new age revival in indie rock, Casey Dienel keeps it lively with modern percussion. This first single off her upcoming new album Baby, out April 1, is wordy, positive, and effervescently lovely.
"Come Alive" Chromeo Ft. Toro y Moi
I thought their schtick would be tired by now but this new song is catchy and sweet, not to mention this video where mannequins come to life is hella fun. Singer David Macklovitch is totally hot as well.
"Help in the Head" The Faint
Junvenile, heavy-handed synth rockers are back with their first racket since 2008. First listens to this more-of-the-same-song are underwhelming. Their new album, Doom Abuse is out April 8.
Check the Gay Place on Monday. Mo' Music will begin digging through some of the stuff coming in for SXSW.
