Brooklyn, Bourgeois, and Bow Ties
By way of introduction, welcome new GP blogger Lawrence Everett Forbes

My name is Lawrence Everett Forbes, I'm queer in all the ways the word implies, and am pleased to be blogging for "The Gay Place." I'm also a bourgeois dork, and have quite the thing for bow ties – the real kind, not the clip-on crap.
I come from a small town called Brooklyn that has gained some notoriety in the past few years, much like Austin has. And while I'm proud of the borough of my birth, I found myself wanting better weather, a slower pace, a more affordable cost of living, and to be closer to my best friend, who resides here. Austin has all of those things, so here I am.
Austin isn't my first time to the relocation rodeo; I've also lived in San Francisco (undergrad), Chicago (grad), Los Angeles, and Savannah. I am, however, hoping it will be my last. In the 16 months I've lived here, I've sung with the Capital City Men's Chorus, volunteered during South by Southwest, and taught ESL and adult basic education for LifeWorks. So far, so fantastic.
If you see me out and about, feel free to say hi. I generally don't bite – unless you pull one of those wide Texas turns that ends with you cutting me off in traffic.
Here's my Twitter.
A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press. If real news is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $10 or whatever you can afford, to help keep our journalism on stands.
