What's better than drag show? How 'bout a drag show featuring competition with queens and kings? What if it also supports a good cause? Get your carpool ready, because all that and more happens at Saturday's Bobcat Ball.
If the name rings a bell, it's because Lambda of Texas State has been throwing this event twice a year since 2000.
Bobcat Ball Fall 2013's theme is burlesque, and they're asking attendees to come "dressed to impress." Yes, that also means you, would-be drag star, this eleganza extravaganza is still accepting amateur performers to join in the competition.
"We are quite excited about the entertainment," says Lambda secretary, Erik Garcia. "Comedian Kelly Stone is hosting and Shannon Anette [aka Shannon Gaga] will be returning."
This bi-annual queer ball is a party with a purpose – to further the goals of Texas State University's LGBTQ organization. The day to day goal of the Lambdas is to "focus on providing social, political, and educational support and services to the LGBTQIA community in the university," Garcia says. The ball exists to help raise campus awareness for all queer students, reach out to allies, and to strengthen the LGBTQIA community.
