Apparently ASA's 'no-holds-barred' art show does hold bars

Yesterday, we (Kate Messer, editor and Andy Campbell, author) posted about an artist who donated/submitted three pieces of art to the Octopus Club's 2010 ArtErotica art show.

ArtErotica 2012 happens this Sat., Apr. 6, 8:30pm at the Old Home Depot on I-35 at St. Johns

One of the three pieces, according to the artist, was not only rejected from the show, but was turned over to authorities without communication to the artist from the group. We felt this implication of this chilling and offered Octopus Club opportunity to share their side of the story. We based the content of our blog post on information given to us by the artist and from principals involved with the show. The interviews with the organizers were limited by their willingness to talk.

We published what we have been told is the artwork in question. Since the launch of the post, some members of Octopus Club now assert that the artwork we put in the post is not the artwork originally submitted by the artist. In subsequent calls to the artist, she (and a corroborating participant) has maintained that the work is the one that was submitted.

As we are limited in our ability to further flesh out the details of this situation, and as the entire piece of analysis by Andy Campbell is based on one photograph now called into question, we are choosing to take down the post temporarily. Author Andy Campbell is pursuing the story and will be following up on this when we are more confident that we have clear information from both sides.
