Merry Christmas.
Happy Yule.
Gay tidings.
Nestled between articles titled:
"A thermosensory pathway that controls body temperature" and "Netrin signal transduction and the guanine nucleotide exchange factor DOCK180 in attractive signaling" in the medical journal Nature Neuroscience is this little gem:
"A glial amino-acid transporter controls synapse strength and courtship in Drosophila"
Sounds boring, huh?
Not really. By messing with the amounts of glutamate sent to the brains of male fruit flies researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago were able to turn the little buggers "GAY"! No, I'm not kidding. Honestly, did it have to be fruit flies?
Aaaaaaaaaand, they also were able to turn them "straight" again.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand of course the queens at Fox News would be all over this recent discovery.
For a laugh click on the link at the Fox site that says: "Click here to visit FOXNews.com's Natural Science Center"
Let's talk about it at Charlie's tomorrow (see post below).
