More New Restaurants Announced for Domain Northside
Daily Austin food news

L'oca d'oro gets happy, Jester King goes sour, and the Brewer's Table pops up in today's local bites.
Two new restaurants are coming to the Domain Northside, the secret lair of super-villian Mr. Freeze the burgeoning North Austin development. North Italia and True Food Kitchen restauranteur Sam Fox will be opening Culinary Dropout (“rebellious grub” with cocktails and music) and Flower Child (“healthy, happy, fast-casual”) in the late fall.
Best of Austin new restaurant finalist L’oca d’oro has a new happy hour that includes drinks like a Beet-chelada and snacks like the most important food of the 20th century – mozzarella sticks. Their version is served with dandelion-hazelnut pesto and is proof that even in a year where the human equivalent of Mario Batali’s Crocs could become president, good things can happen.
October is filled with five gazillion (give or take) events as the weather cools down and people start realizing that there are things to do in our city other than floating in various swimming pools. First up, Jester King Brewery is inviting some of their best buds for their annual Funk ’n’ Sour Fest, held next Thursday, Oct. 20. Two small bites from 13 restaurants are paired with two beers, wines, ciders, or beer/wine cocktails from 13 various beverage folks in what is kind of like culinary speed dating without you having to awkwardly explain to your date that you still live at home.
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, Jack Allen’s Kitchen Oak Hill will be hosting their annual Pepe Z Party on the Patio with live music from Duane & the Hipsters, a specialty menu from chef Rojo Lujano, and Pepe Z Tequila cocktails from beverage director David Toby. Pepe Zevada and his team will be in attendance to debut their new label design, which is unfortunately not the unsolicited artwork I sent them after a particularly evocative tequila dream.
Also on Tuesdays, Dolce Neve will be offering a special flavor of gelato sandwiches that will make your Instagram the envy of your frenemy group. Recent flavors have included pecan butter cookies filled with goat cheese and wild blueberry jam and pistachio shortbread cookies filled with cherry jam and vanilla gelato, so eating the sandwiches after you photograph them is highly encouraged.
On Sunday, Oct. 16, Sophia’s is launching a new bubble brunch, a phrase we would all like Big Freedia to repeat repeatedly on stage. The service will feature sparkling cocktails paired with chef Mark Sparacino’ s brunch menu including steak and eggs, strata, and giannicakes (get it?) There will also be DJs who might play Big Freedia. It’s best to start exercising your thigh muscles just in case.
The Brewer’s Table from founder and brew-ru Jake Maddux will be hosting pop-ups all across the land starting with a dinner at Franklin Barbecue on Sunday, Oct. 30. The dinner is complimentary, but only a few seats are available through a lottery system. Want to be part of the special evening? Sign up for the mailing list. The traveling show will next visit the New Belgium Brewing Company tap room.
Emmer & Rye will be hosting renowned foraging smartie John Slattery for a dinner event on Saturday, Nov. 12. The meal will feature ingredients bought at Costco. JK. They will totes be highlighting foraged ingredients. The meal is $125 and can be reserved through the restaurant.
