Fake Person, Real Pancakes

By Brandon Watson, August 21, 2014, 4:00pm, On the Range

Well, this one is weird. It's often said that memes have a life of their own, but memes very rarely pack up their tube socks and embark on a cross country journey. It's even rarer when a meme tries to prove his largesse by giving away stacks of pancakes. Grumpy Cat can't even muster a purr.

But Pancake Bob is no ordinary meme. Ever since Electronic Arts released initial stills from The Sims 4, poor Bob hasn't had a moment's peace to enjoy a single simulated short stack. It seems that every time he picks up a fork, he is soon interrupted by a very conversational redhead. Some may call her a nag, but we don't particularly blame her. He could at least try to find a job.

But no, he would rather traipse around the country in a ratty bathrobe looking for the flapjack at the end of the rainbow. Worse yet, he's blowing his meager savings by treating strangers to his favorite breakfast. We hope he's at least getting paid a small stipend, but he seems more in it for the fame. If you want a free pancake, he insists you pose with him for a glamor shot and then post it on social media. Laminating for the family scrapbook is optional.

We say it's a small price to pay – assuming the pancakes are real. (We don't much cotton to pixels.) You can visit Bob tomorrow at the Kerbey Lane Cafe at 3003 S. Lamar, 9am-noon (limit one order of pancakes and one cup of coffee per attendee, while supplies last). We hope this time, he remembers to wear a shirt.
