'Downton Abbey' Trivia Contest, Book Signing, Tea & Cookies

By Virginia B. Wood, December 9, 2013, 4:30pm, On the Range

With season four of Downton Abbey set to resume on PBS January 5, now is the time to brush up on series trivia. Austin Chronicle contributor Melanie Haupt will lead a trivia contest Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Barnes & Noble in the Arboretum at a tea party that also includes a discussion and signing of her new book.

In addition to being a serious Downton Abbey aficionado, Haupt is the author of Historic Austin Restaurants -Capital Cuisine Through Generations (History Press, $19.99). She'll share anecdotes and history of some of Austin's classic eateries and sign copies of her book while guests enjoy tea and cookies from the store cafe. Then Haupt will quiz the audience on their knowledge of Downton Abbey details. If you've got a teacup worthy of serving tea to the Dowager Duchess, Lady Violet, be sure to bring it for the Best Teacup contest. The winner will receive a Downton Abbey page-a-day calendar for 2014, for keeping track of a lady's important evening engagements.
