Early Morning Fire at Hill's Cafe

By Virginia B. Wood, November 25, 2013, 11:35am, On the Range

An early morning passer-by happened to see flames in the window at Hill's Cafe this morning and alerted the fire department as well as KOKE-FM radio personality (and minority owner) Bob Cole. Cole and Ellis Winstanley want to buy Thanksgiving dinner for whoever did that good deed.

According to Hill's majority owner and managing partner, Ellis Winstanley, the fire appears to have started in layers of roofing over the banquet hall. At the time we spoke this morning, he said the kitchen and dining rooms were undamaged but most of the damage was to the memorabilia-filled party room. Once the damage has been completely assessed, Winstanley will have a clearer picture about how long it will take to clean up the restaurant and get permission to re-open, but he's hoping to be up and running to feed that good Samaritan by Thanksgiving Day. We'll keep you posted.
