Former Wink co-workers Dirk Miller and Matt Taylor created the glass2plate supper club in 2012 with Taylor as chef and Miller as sommelier. Their original events have been delighting guests around town for months. When Miller didn't show up for a series of appointments last Friday, his partner and friends began to worry.
The Louisiana native – a certified sommelier – was 37 years old and had worked at Wink from 2006 until October 2012, when he and Taylor left to start their own business. Their quirky and eclectic glass2plate events would pop up in a variety of places, anywhere from the dogtrot cottage adjacent to Boggy Creek Farm to the Graffiti Walls at Castle Hill overlooking Lamar.
Wink co-owner Mark Paul told us today that Miller's family, friends, and former co-workers are sad and in shock. He was not comfortable speculating about the reasons for his friend's death, directing me to his post on the restaurant's Facebook page: I am sorry to be the messenger, but our friend and colleague Dirk Miller passed away suddenly over the weekend. Our thanks to everyone who has held Dirk in their thoughts and prayers. Your support means the world to his family and friends. Please respect the family’s desire for privacy in this time of grief.
When we know more about possible memorial services or celebrations of Dirk Miller's life, we will post that information. Our condolences to his family and friends.
