An Evening with Jesse Griffiths and Jody Horton at BookPeople

By Jessi Cape, December 14, 2012, 1:00pm, On the Range

To celebrate their fantastic book Afield: A Chef’s Guide to Preparing and Cooking Wild Game and Fish, locavore chef /author Jesse Griffiths of Dai Due and photographer Jody Horton will be spending an evening at BookPeople Friday, December 14 at 7pm.

Jesse Griffiths is taking the food world by storm (even another New York Times write-up) through his commitment to ethical and sustainable hunting, fishing, and cooking. Providing an opportunity to learn firsthand about the process of wild game’s journey from field to plate is something Griffiths holds dear and offers in his practical hunting schools, a profound experience I wrote about here. Learning from a skilled guide who carries a profound respect for the land and its bounty yields a refreshing shift in perspective about food.

Afield inspired tastings and Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s craft beers will be served as the men of the hour narrate a slide show from their many grand adventures. There will also be a chance to sign up for the Central Texas river fishing trip. The winner will wade in with Jesse and learn the joys of river fishing under patient guidance; a streamside campfire lunch will be provided along with all tackle. Copies of Afield will be available for purchase and Jesse and Jody will be on-hand to sign.
