Good Food Award Beer Finalists Announced

By Ivy Le, November 30, 2012, 9:43am, On the Range

The wildly named Good Food awards recognize goods with superior taste that are produced - crafted, if you will - in socially and environmentally sustainable ways. Finalists were announced yesterday, and THREE, count 'em, THREE Texas brewers made the cut.

Congratulations to:
• Hops and Grain Brewery for Alteration
• Independence Brewing Co for Convict Hill Stout & Stash IPA
• Jester King Craft Brewery for Boxer's Revenge

Amy Cartwright, co-founder and president of Independence Brewing Co., could be in for a repeat victory. Last year, their first year as nominees, they won for Convict Hill Stout. This year, both their Convict Hill and Stash IPA are finalists, so place those bets.

Hops and Grain founder Josh Hare said, "We are extremely excited and honored to be showcased amongst other food producers who are living daily through the art of food production with a respect for their environmental and social impact, and inspiring others to do the same." Remember that Hops and Grain only celebrated their one-year anniversary this past October.

Other Texans making us proud:
• Trace at W Austin, Lamb Sweetbread Terrine
• Cuvee Coffee for their Witness Project Fall
• Flume Creek Preserves for their Raspberry Preserves
and two in pickles:
• Aunt Nita's Homestyle Foods for their Sweet Jalapeno Relish and
• Pogue Mahone Pickles for Jalapeno Mint

Winners will be honored in a ceremony hosted by Alice Waters, the author of The Art of Simple Food who arguably launched organic food as a popular movement, in San Francisco on January 18, 2013. The next day, winners will showcase their wares at the Good Food Marketplace event surrounded by the Saturday Farmers Market at San Francisco's iconic Ferry Building.

Here's hoping y'all class Cali up in just a few weeks.
