Pantone Schmantone
By Liz Osting, 1:12PM, Thu. Jan. 10, 2008
So Pantone recently announced its 2008 color of the year to be Blue Iris. According to a press release from Pantone Color Institute®:
"Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement."Huh? Was this written by a paint company or my therapist?
I'm giving the finger to Pantone. Who died and made you "the world’s color authority”? Last year they picked Chili Pepper Red as their color “for fashion and personal expression.” I don't know about you guys, but I don't have a lick of this color in my wardrobe or furnishings. How did they come up with this stuff? Was it a twisted game of pin-the-tail-on-the-color-wheel? I can only imagine they make these decisions with their eyes closed.
As far as color trends go, last year it was so obvious that blue-brown was the winning color combo. Now that every soccer mom in the nation has adopted this pairing for her scrapbooking needs, it's out. So what's next? I'm crowning myself "the Osting household color authority." And I proclaim butter-yellow. Now go out and buy it.
