SXSW: BADBADNOTGOOD
by nowtoronto.com

BADBADNOTGOOD knows how to construct sounds that start with minimal scraps of a song and progressively build it into a hip hop infused supernova.

This Toronto-based trio is composed of Chester Hansen on bass, Matthew Tavares playing piano and Alexander Sowinski slaughtering the drums. The band met in the jazz program of Humber College in 2010 and formed because of their affinity for groups like Odd Future and A Tribe Called Quest. Since then they have collaborated with some of their favorite artist, including Tyler, the Creator, Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt, winning them widespread notoriety.

BADBADNOTGOOD holds all the qualities of a seasoned jazz ensemble, however these youngsters stay in the pocket and amplify the song until it busts at its seams. The ongoing, steady groove throughout their songs creates a clean canvas for rap artists to throw their lyrics upon. No samples necessary. Lyrical accompaniment or not, BADBADNOTGOOD will stretch your ears with bebop and hip hop and leave you in a cold sweat show after show. Catch them at the 512 Rooftop, March 15th at 1:00am for the Sofa King Raw showcase.
