SXSW: Black Lips

A band you should probably know by now

SXSW: Black Lips
by Spin Magazine

With South by Southwest around the corner, and the impending tidal wave of noise set to decimate Austin, it's time to start narrowing the list of noteworthy bands. Let's start with 2013 showcasing artist, Black Lips.

If you haven't heard of Black Lips by now, you probably live under a rock. Their most recent album, Arabia Mountain, debuted in 2011 on Vice Records.

Black Lips played ACL Festival and Fun Fun Fun Fest in addition to a huge list of local venues during previous years of SXSW. New York Times crowned The Black Lips Hardest Working Band of 2007 and they haven't taken their foot off the gas.

To put it simply, Black Lips rock. Their gritty, lo-fi guitars and upbeat, driving rhythm section will get your legs a-twitching real quick. Self-described as being "flower punk", they have stage energy that could incite a riot...a dancing, free spirited, lovable riot. Catch them at the Cedar Street Courtyard on March 14th at 1:00pm and keep your eyes open because this band gets around.
