Fight to the Death With the Dead Tree Brigade

There's an awful lot of jousting going on in the Austin lit scene, but we have a sneaking suspicion we can all get along in the end.

On Thursday, April 3, Adrian Todd Zuniga hosts the Literary Death Match, in which four local authors read their own work to qualify for the finale, "a vaguely literary game (think Pin the Mustache on Hemingway) to decide the ultimate champion," according to the website.

This round of participants includes Jennifer DuBois (Cartwheel), Neal Pollack (yes, that one), Elizabeth McCracken (An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination), and Austin Bat Cave director Manuel Gonzales, fresh off his Lucha Libro battle against Owen Egerton, himself an LDM alumnus and one of the evening's judges.

He'll be joined by Sarah Bird (The Yokota Officers Club) and Bob Schneider at the judges' table. They'll each have one facet of the reading to judge on, according to their strengths: Bird assesses literary merit, Schneider breaks down the performance, and Egerton tackles "intangibles."
