The Poet Goes About Her Business

Tonight, the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin hosts this semester's visiting professor, Linda Gregg for a reading on campus.

Her poems are clear and lyrical, and they often tackle grief and loss in remarkably relatable ways. Of Gregg's work, poet W.S. Merwin once said "they convey at once the pain of individual loss, a steady and utterly personal radiance."

Gregg has published eight books of poetry – All of It Singing, Things & Flesh, Too Bright to See, and more – in the last three decades. Before coming to Michener this spring, she taught at the University of Iowa, University of California – Berkeley, and Princeton.

Check out her reading of "There She Is" and "I Do Not Need the Gods to Return" from the 2009 Jackson Poetry Prize reception.

If you miss her on-campus appearance tonight, Gregg will be around again for the Poetry at Round Top festival this month; details to come.

Linda Gregg reads at 7:30pm in the Avaya Auditorium on the UT campus (ACES 2.302). For more information, visit the Michener Center's Facebook page.
