Short Story Contest Update

By Monica Riese, January 21, 2013, 3:45pm, Under the Covers

After an exhaustive review of the 410 submissions to this year's Austin Chronicle Short Story Contest, we've narrowed the pool to 10 finalists, who were notified of their achievement this morning.

A panel of judges from Austin's local lit world – Owen Egerton, Amanda Eyre Ward, Bob Byington, Katherine Catmull, and Jeanne Thornton – are currently poring over those final 10 stories, and will narrow it down to first, second, and third place, plus two honorable mentions. Congratulations to all the finalists! And if you didn't make it this year, thanks for your hard work, and we look forward to reading your new pieces next year.

Winners will be announced at a public reception at BookPeople (603 N. Lamar) at 7pm on Wednesday, Feb. 6, and the top three authors will read their stories aloud. If you can't join us for the reception, the first-place story will be printed in the following day's issue of the Chronicle.

Need something to hold you over until then? Read our past winners' stories at austinchronicle.com/shortstory.
