When I turned 30, I drank too much and worked my angst out on a piƱata. I suspect the Writers' League of Texas will handle its own passage into a third decade with significant more decorum and/or grace.
The WLT, which is currently in the midst of its first ever YA A to Z Conference, is throwing a 30th anniversary part Saturday night (April 16) from 7-10pm at Hyatt Regency Austin's Texas Ballroom. Early bird ticketing for the party is now closed, but tickets can be purchased at the door ($35/adult, $15/ child) and the price includes birthday cake, hors d'oeuvres, and live music by the Inside Out Steel Band (featuring former WLT Executive Director Angela Smith).
The party also boasts some YA celebrity: Authors expected to attend include Tim Wynne-Jones, Uma Krishnaswami, Carrie Ryan, Cinda Williams Chima, Hope Larson, and Austin's Cynthia Leitich Smith. Books will be on sale for the signing.
