Your Weekend's Not All Wet, Citizen!
Regardless of whatever else might be happily moist
By Wayne Alan Brenner, 3:15PM, Fri. May 11, 2012
Never mind the rain.
No, seriously: Never mind the goddam rain.
In fact, celebrate it, revel in it, raise a thankful halloo, throw some kind of mud-spattered backyard kegger in its honor, because we'll all be back in droughtsville soon enough, friend.
But don't let it get in your way, right?
(In old comics, the incredible Hulk – a precursor of the big green show-stealer in this season's Avengers movie – used to bellow, "Hulk hate water-from-sky!" And we could never understand how such creative hyphenating was easier for Hulk instead of him just saying "rain.")
(But then, we never had the cleverness to
screw Jack Kirby out of millions of dollars, either.)
Anyway: Don't let this weekend's precipitation keep you from attending such cultural goodnesses as the Ladies Are Funny Festival at Salvage Vanguard Theater (in the lobby of which you can also witness Kaci Beeler's gorgeous Food Porn exhibition) ... the Latino Comedy Project's Los Abengers at the Hideout Downtown ... Friday night's opening reception for Fugue States at grayDUCK Gallery right off South First ... the final night of Teenage Wasteland at Co-Lab on the Eastside ... and even Sunday's concert by the Medieval/Modern band yclept Compass Rose in a more central part of the ATX.
(And while you're carefully navigating the drizzled streets in cars, especially if that makes you remember Gary Numan's hit song from the '80s,
you might also want to add this track to your iPod's cache of sonic joints
from that master of the Tubeway Army.)
And we'll see you again next week.
