Your Culture

As generational tides ebb and flow, the froth of the waves can flood the nostrils of context. Young folk often feel history-less. Other cultures/subcults usually have books or websites to clear out the mucus. For queers, it's not so easy. This week, learn about some godfathermothers: Gary Floyd and Frankie Knuckles. Both on Fifth and both fabulastic. (See Saturday.)

BOOBS BE GONE Local q-activister Kayden Althen is taking the dip into a tit-less existence (not so much "titless" as less tit, shall we say?). And as is the case for most folks in some form of life transition or another, K is conscious of community. Kayden has given so much heart and spirit (via TENT, et al.) to what makes Austin such a queertastic, transfabulous space, that it only seems fitting to let the love flow right back in this time of resolve. King/Thing Jimmy D. Sparklefinger's throwing a party featuring DJ Divorcée, Bitter Heart Society, Merci Killingspree, and more. And Kayden's also going the online route. Have at it. Sat., Oct. 19, 8pm. Private location, email for details. braaains@gmail.com, www.indiegogo.com/projects/boobs-be-gone-top-surgery-fundraiser.

POLARI FESTIVAL AGLIFF, rebranded last year under the moniker of the word for dishy faggoty British slang, is ramping up for 2013. Have you got your tix? Or would you care to volunteer? (Perks!) "Don't just sit there," they say, and then give us every reason to sit there. Rapt. Wed.-Sun., Oct. 16-20. 512/302-9889. Details online. info@polarifest.com, www.polarifest.com.
