AGLCC's new leadership

A SHITSTORM OF PEYTON PLACE ... Dallas, Dynasty, pick your poison, but geeeez, it seems any given week at any one of our esteemed LGBT nonprofits can be a stew-pit of soap-operatic proportions. This week, it's AGLCC's turn. You'd think, hot off the satisfying ecstasy of Pride weekend, that the local gay chamber knows enough to lie back, take a drag off a well-deserved cig, and wallow in the afterglow of a job well done. But no, why ride wave after wave of good will when you can screw it all up? AGLCC instead decided to issue a press release Tuesday flaunting new leadership, stating that its then-president Jimmy Flannigan had resigned. If you know Jimmy Flannigan, you know how preposterous that seemed: Everything Jimmy did this year for Pride – every one of his harebrained schemes, all of which, by the way, paid off – was groundwork for the future. Trouble with the press release was that it was a lie, an attempt to save face. (New prez Chad Peevy says it was for Jimmy's sake, but really, who believes that?) Truth told, the board of AGLCC gave Flannigan a resignation letter to sign. He refused. So they voted him off the island, then issued a hokey press release. Way to go! Way to instill trust, AGLCC. Honestly, can't we all just lie back together and blow heart-shaped smoke rings, instead? See "AGLCC Ousts President in Pride's Wake," News, p.20, for more details.
