PRIDE '98 Pride Week

  • Project Transitions hosts Texas Swing at Saengerrunde Hall with music by Alvin Crow, barbecue, and an auction, Fri, Jun 5. For those with two left feet, dance lessons will be held 7-8pm. Tickets are $20, advance; $25 at the door. 454-8646.
  • Central East Austin Community Center (CEACO) and Ye Ye celebrate Black Pride at the Victory Grill, Fri, Jun 5. 472-5636 or 302-6729.
  • "Music" is the word, Sat, Jun 6. Proceeds from the Mostly Music Marathon 12-hour show (noon-mid) at First Unitarian, 4700 Grover, go to benefit AIDS Services of Austin (ASA). 406-6115.
  • Lesbian Gay Rights Lobby of Texas (LGRL) hosts a Women's Pride Dance Sat, Jun 6, with deejay Lenne Degedding-size later that evening, 7pm-mid, at Fiesta Gardens. Admission is $10. 474-5475.
  • For anyone who missed the prom or didn't get to date the babe they wanted, Out Youth hosts the snazzy alternative prom: "Hollywood Stars," Sat., Jun 6. It all starts with a variety show at 7pm. The prom proper begins at 9pm. Folks 22 and under get in for $15; old geezers have to shell out $20, still a deal to re-live your past. 708-1234.
  • The week caps off, Sun, Jun 7, LGRL throws the Texas Pride Festival 1998 at Fiesta Gardens. The festival will entertain an expected 5,000 revelers with live music (Trish Murphy, Terri Hendrix, Handful, and more!), an outdoor brunch, arts & crafts, community booths, and of course, beer. The fun starts at noon and goes, "OOOooooohh! Ooooooohhp!" until 7pm. 474-5475.

Pride Month

  • Club Skirt, the monthly women's dance party given by-women-for-women-because- these-women-like-to-get-down-with-other- women, celebrates Pride on Fri, Jun 12, 7pm at Fiesta Gardens. The $15 donation benefits the Cornerstone Gay & Lesbian Community Center. Admission is only $10 between 7-8pm. 708-1515.
  • The 1998 Out 'N Open Golf Tournament tees off Sat, Jun 13 at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course. The $85 player's fee covers green fees, a cart, a shirt, and the dinner party/silent auction to follow at Serrano's. Non-golfers can attend the after party for $25. 708-0536.
  • Zachary Scott Theater will give a special pre-opening performance of The Who's Tommy Thu, Jun 18, 8pm to benefit Cornerstone. The cost is $15 in advance, $18 at the door. 476-0541.
  • The Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival hosts a benefit Volleyball Tournament. The tourney, Sat-Sun, Jun 20-21 will serve it up at `Bout Time's courts, N. I-35. Players must be at least 21. 476-2454.
  • Sun, Jun 28, the Austin Men's Party powers up at Zilker Park Clubhouse,
  • 7-10pm. The $13 in advance, $15 at the door benefits Cornerstone. 708-1515.

  • Every Monday night, Top of the Marc (atop Katz's) presents the La Cage! Follies. For all of June, the $5 cover charge (and performer's tips!) will be donated to Project Transitions. The galas begin at 8pm. 472-9849.
