Being Civil

Sister Helen Prejean, author of the stirring account of one woman's odyssey through the legal system, Dead Man Walking, will keynote this year's annual Bill of Rights Dinner, Wed, Dec 11, 7:30pm at the Sheraton. The dinner is the main fundraiser for the Texas Civil Rights Project, the scrappy guard dogs of our rights as set forth by both the Texas and U.S. Constitutions. The project provides free legal assistance in efforts to vindicate and safeguard Texans' civil rights and seeks to promote social, racial, and economic justice through the legal system. Cool. Musical guests for the $35 affair are Tish Hinojosa, Lourdes Perez, and Tiffany Wilson. Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos will emcee, and Sister Helen will sign copies of her book during the reception. 474-5073.
