Shrimp Boat/Sea & Cake principal Sam Prekop distills Chicago post-rock into focused compositions. Latest solo effort The Republic luxuriates in woozy electronic spirals that approximate the sensation of driving through a car wash. Composed in part as soundtrack for a video installation, its retro-futuristic melodies invite deep contemplation. Here, Prekop and Archer Prewitt divine improvised music for a modular synthesizer.
