611 E. Seventh, 512/476-8100

Appearances by 1977 L.A. punk legends the Weirdos – helmed by Texas émigré brothers John and Dix Denney, the conceptualist frontman and viciously creative guitarist, respectively – are more rare than Ted Nugent at a gun control rally. Leading lights of West Coast CBGBs analog the Masque, clad in what resembled an entire thrift store slashed to ribbons and spattered in paint, they combined cracked art-schoolisms with a Ramones-speed take on the New York Dolls and explosive 45s like “We Got the Neutron Bomb.” They should’ve been the American Sex Pistols. The Weirdos last toured in 2005.
