The Royal Southern Brotherhood, Gregg Allman & John Hiatt
You’d be hard pressed to come up with names more generationally rooted in Southern music than Devon Allman and Cyril Neville. Teamed with guitarist Mike Zito and other vets, the Brotherhood infuses old-blood New Orleans funk with youngblood Southern blues-rock à la their self-titled CD. Call it a yellow moon over Florida, it’s muscular, sinewy sounds coming from a pair of tight-fitting genes. Better still, they open for John Hiatt and ABB patriarch Gregg Allman. See the Earache! Music blog for an interview with Devon Allman. – Margaret Moser
