2015 E. Riverside

Cresting 2012 Top 10 lists proved easy for the Heartless Bastards’ fourth LP, last February’s Arrow (Partisan). Harder was catching the local foursome on a local stage. Frontwoman Erika Wennerstrom’s heroic wail remains the most booming, blues-distressed voice to own Austin since Janis Joplin, and Arrow shot straight with mountainous highs and subtle, soulful lows. Paired with fire and brimstone locals My Jerusalem, whose year-end sophomore release, Preachers, shook rafters, Heartless Bastards won’t break your corazon. They’ll just bend it to their will. – Raoul Hernandez
