Rescheduled due to Hurricane Sandy, Friday’s performance at the Stateside hosts Houston pianist and recent MacArthur Fellowship “genius” Moran, dubbed “the future of jazz” and hailed as “the most provocative thinker in current jazz.” 2010 marked a decade with his fabulous trio, the Bandwagon, on Ten, which won DownBeat’s Jazz Album of the Year, while Moran also took home both Artist and Pianist of the Year. B.B. King’s influence on guitarists, singers, and the blues can’t be overstated. At 87, he remains the undisputed King of the Blues, so bow Sunday at the Paramount. We’ll never see his kind of majesty again. – Jay Trachtenberg
