Everlasting garage rockers the Crack Pipes have been giving the blues a lo-fi beatdown locally since 1995. Pitting the shrill shouts and harmonica wailing of Ray Colgan with the Brillo blues licks of Billy Steve Korpi over a rumbling rhythm section and Farfisa organ, the Austin mainstays cast a long shadow on a newer class of local garage bands, one of whom, La Migra, shakes the sand off their feet with Dick Dale influenced garage pop and sunshine acid vibes. – Kevin Curtin
