Alejandro Escovedo, John Prine
Sat., Sept. 29, 8pm
Bass Concert Hall, 2350 Robert Dedman Dr., UT campus, 512/471-1444
As a mail carrier outside Chicago, finger-picking folksinger John Prine authored a couple of pages of the American songbook with “Angel From Montgomery” and environmental anthem “Paradise.” The humble and defiant career that followed found Prine foraying into country and rockabilly. Neck cancer did a number on his voice, hushing his nasally drawl, but not his defiant wit or empathetic perspective. Local journeyman Alejandro Escovedo opens. – Kevin Curtin
