Lizard King returns.
Although absent from the live circuit for much of the past two decades, iconoclastic Texan troubadour Michael Nesmith continues a welcome return to live action. In addition to touring with his Monkeemates, with whom he delivered a stellar show at Long Center in July, the Houston native assembled a band for solo shows that explore his lesser-known but gem-filled Southwestern catalogue. That format ought to go down well in this posh venue’s intimate environment. A few tickets remain.– Scott Schinder
Reanimated Eighties sideshow cabaret Shoulders enlivens the Chronicle’s free monthly music series with rollicking wit. More than two decades after Trashman Shoes became a surprise hit in France, new release Another Round doubles down on boisterous, whiskey-sodden stories of busted hearts and lost innocence. Few frontmen weave a narrative with the gospel potency of Michael Slattery as on old chestnuts like “Forbidden Fruit.” Free with RSVP.– Greg Beets
