Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox has assembled an all-star lineup that just might bottle Hendrix’s lightning for this traveling celebration now in its ninth year. Much of the same cast appears both nights, with Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford and Los Lobos’ tandem David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas headlining a bill that includes Dweezil Zappa, Jonny Lang & Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the Doors’ Robby Krieger, pedal steel revivalist Robert Randolph, and local ringers Eric Johnson and Doyle Bramhall II. With the second season well under way, it’s time to catch up again with The Voice’s Tje Austin. A black/Hawaiian soul singer, Austin made a splash in prime time last year, offering a smooth, contemporary counterpoint on Cee Lo Green’s squad to the gruff blues of Nakia. He earned praise along the way from R&B singer Monica and used the momentum to release his aptly titled third album, Dreamin’ Big. Lex Land and Jaimee Harris open. – Austin Powell
