  • The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears

The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (2014)

Not rated, 102 min. Directed by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani. Starring Klaus Tange, Ursula Bedena and Joe Koener.

Following up their 2009 feature Amer, French directing duo Cattet and Forzani again mine the visual language of the Italian gialli films of the Sixties and Seventies with The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears. But whereas their first film was an experimental fever dream of images encapsulating the coming of age of a young girl in the south of France, Strange Color drapes more of a plot around the fetishistic images and unnerving close-ups, as a man returns home from a business trip to discover that his wife has disappeared into the murky depths of the ravishingly beautiful art nouveau apartment building where they live. The plot quickly falls into the obfuscation of dream logic, but there are many aesthetic pleasures to be found here, so just sit back and succumb to the stunning visual and aural landscape this talented filmmaking team has created.
